The OrthoIndy Foundation has agreed to donate $3 million, securing naming rights for the facility in the process.
The OrthoIndy Foundation says a major factor in its decision to make the contribution is the facility’s focus on programs and services that support military veterans. The new YMCA, located in Pike Township, will connect its programs with traditional clinical VA health care, thanks to a partnership announced last year with the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center.
"Since it was launched in 2012, the OrthoIndy Foundation has sought an opportunity to make a profound, lasting impact on the lives of veterans," said OrthoIndy Foundation Chairman John Dietz. "We’re proud to partner with the Y on a facility that not only meets that aim but also can serve as a model for others across America."
Once completed, the OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA will be the first of its kind in the nation to feature veteran-focused medical services. To date, the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis has raised $7 million of the $10 million needed for the facility. The organization says architectural plans are underway and groundbreaking will occur once the project is fully funded.
The YMCA secured 12 acres of land for the project, which was provided by the MSD of Pike Township.
