(Nasdaq: EMMS) has named Indy Market Manager Charlie Morgan interim New York market manager. The announcement comes in conjunction with the company detailing $7.5 million in cuts Thursday morning, including 32 workers.
The bulk of the reductions, $5 million will hit the media company’s radio division. Significant cuts were also made to publishing and corporate units, as well as across-the-board pay cuts for senior executives. In a corresponding move, the company said it would not renew the contract of the current top man in New York, Deon Levingston.
In a statement, Emmis lauds the work of Morgan:
"Charlie Morgan, our Emmis’ Indianapolis Market Manager for the past 6 years, has accepted the responsibility of serving as our interim New York Market Manager, leading WBLS, WLIB and HOT97. Charlie’s unique background and consistent track record of success will play a key role in maximizing our ratings and digital metrics growth in New York. Charlie will continue to assist in Indianapolis, but in his day-to-day absence, his core leadership duo of Tracey Bean and Bob Richards will work together to provide local leadership to our highly successful Emmis Indianapolis operation. We would like to thank Deon Levingston for leading Emmis New York the past two years and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
Emmis has five stations in the Indianapolis market, as well as our newsgathering partners at Network Indiana, and three stations in New York: WBLS, WLIB and HOT97.
Emmis Communications Chief Executive Officer Jeff Smulyan says, despite a tough 2015 in radio, the overall picture for 2016 looks “a little bit better.”
