84 Lumber Growing in Johnson County

Subscribe NowPennsylvania-based 84 Lumber Co. has announced plans to locate a manufacturing facility in Franklin and create up to 100 jobs by 2019. The company says it will invest more than $5.5 million to set up operations in the former Trussway facility, which has been vacant since 2009.
84 Lumber will build wood roof trusses, floor trusses and wall panels at the Johnson County facility. It plans to begin renovations this month, and start hiring for plant management and production associate positions in February. The company currently employs more than 4,600 throughout the United States.
President Maggie Hardy Magerko says Indiana is an important part of the company’s expansion, adding the Franklin facility "will allow us to better serve and provide materials to our builders in the region."
The building materials supplier was founded in 1956 and has more than 250 stores in the United States. The 84 Components division, which is coming to Franklin, operates five additional U.S. plants.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered 84 Lumber Co. up to $450,000 in conditional tax credits based on the job creation plans. The city of Franklin will consider additional incentives.
Two other Pennsylvania-based companies, D-A Lubricant and Union Electric Steel, have announced Indiana expansion plans in the last year.
