Bedford Bags $127M GM Investment

The automaker will invest more than $127 million in its Bedford Casting Operations plant and create around 127 jobs. GM says the expansion involves production of new aluminum engine blocks and components. The Bedford plant currently employs approximately 700 and makes parts used in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles.
GM says, including today’s announcement, it has invested more than $426 million in the Bedford plant since 2010. Bedford Casting Operations Plant Manager Lamar Rucker says the investment recognizes the plant’s work force and "demonstrates GM’s collaboration with our UAW and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers partners, which reflects how we continue to bring new powertrain solutions to our customers.
The automaker says details about the timing of the investment and the job application process will be released later.
In May, General Motors announced plans to invest more than $1 billion to more than double the size of its Fort Wayne Assembly plant. That project includes an expanded body shop, pre-treatment facility and increased general assembly capabilities. GM employs more than 4,000 workers in Fort Wayne, where it makes Chevrolet, Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks.
The automaker says, so far this year, it has announced more than $6.5 billion in facility investment in the United States, creating more than 3,300 jobs.
