Purdue Trustees Approve Daniels Extension

Subscribe NowThe Purdue University Board of Trustees has approved a contract extension for President Mitch Daniels, which increases the at-risk portion of his pay to 50 percent. The board also approved names for two new facilities and an academic structure for the combined Purdue University Northwest.
The contract runs through June 30, 2020 and holds Daniels’ guaranteed salary flat. The guaranteed salary is $420,000 and the at-risk portion is $210,000, bringing his total potential salary to $630,000 for each of the next five years.
Trustees Chair Mike Berghoff says a "year of records" at Purdue illustrates Daniels’ success as president. The school is reporting records in four-year and six-year graduation rates, student retention and applications. He says the university also set records in research funding, with $401 million in the year that ended June 30, and commercialization, with 178 new patents.
Purdue will name the Hall of Animal Sciences after Hobart and Russell Creighton, founders of Kosciusko County-based egg producer The Creighton Brothers. The Center for Experiential Learning will be named after Land O’ Lakes. Both moves are in honor of $5 million gifts.
Trustees also approved six colleges for Purdue University Northwest, which will be created by unifying Purdue University North Central in Westville and Purdue University Calumet in Hammond. The combined organization will offer programming in six schools:
–Business
–Engineering and Sciences
–Humanities, Education and Social Sciences
–Nursing
–Technology
–Honors
The unification will officially take place ahead of the 2016-2017 academic year.
