Delphi Opera House Reopens

Subscribe NowThe Delphi Opera House is back open after a more than $4.3 million expansion and restoration project. The three-story building, which is owned by the Delphi Preservation Society, has nearly doubled in size. The society says the stage has been fully restored, along with original windows and wallpapers.
“‘Breathtaking’ is what we hear most often by those who are seeing the Delphi Opera House for the first time. In a short time, we expect to be attracting audiences from throughout Indiana and surrounding states, who will appreciate both the ambiance and productions,” Executive Director Sara Daly Brosman said.
Officials say $2.6 million is coming from the state’s Stellar Communities program to fund the project, and the rest will be from the Delphi Preservation Society through grants and contributions.
“This meticulously restored and well-appointed facility is also available for special events and private bookings, such as banquets, weddings, receptions, recitals and other gatherings,” Brosman said.
The Delphi Opera House was originally named the Assion-Ruffing City Hall and served as a grand event hall. The building’s first event was an 1865 ball for returning Civil War veterans. The third floor served as an opera house until it closed in 1914.
The Delphi Opera House is located at 109 S. Washington Street.
