The honor is based on high performance or notable progress in closing achievement gaps.
A total of 335 schools in 45 states and at military bases in Germany and South Korea were honored this year. The program is in its 33rd year and has recognized a total of over 8,000 schools.
The schools in Indiana are:

- Farmersville Elementary School in Mount Vernon
- Memorial Elementary School in Valparaiso
- Murdock Elementary School in Lafayette
- North Elementary School in Poseyville
- Oak Trace Elementary School in Westfield
- Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Carmel
- Prairie Vista Elementary School in Granger
- Saint Pius X Catholic School in Granger
- South Adams High School in Berne
