Fort Wayne-based Turnstone is celebrating the completion of the $14.5 million Turnstone of Tomorrow project. Guests will visit the new Plassman Athletic Center this weekend during an open house. Turnstone CEO Mike Mushett calls it the “most accessible” facility of its type in the country. The center includes a fieldhouse, warm water pool, health and wellness center and locker rooms.

During an interview on Inside INdiana Business Television, Mushett said the expansion will better position Turnstone for a National Paralympic Training Site designation by the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Turnstone is one of the three-largest U.S. Paralympic Sport Clubs in the country.  It currently serves 2,200 people with disabilities and their families through its therapeutic, educational, adaptive sports and recreational programs.

Meantime, Mushett says the USA Men’s National Goalball team is moving to Fort Wayne, and will train at Turnstone. Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for blind athletes. The sport combines dodgeball, bowling, volleyball and soccer.

The open house is Saturday, September 12 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
