Go, dog, go! Neon lights will make dog run at Greyhound Station
Indiana Landmarks invites the public to an ice cream social celebrating the neon re-lighting at the old Greyhound Station in downtown Evansville on Thursday, June 18, 8-9 pm (CDT).
For the past year, Indiana Landmarks has been restoring the outside of the two-toned blue building at 102 NW Third St. (corner of Third and Sycamore), eliminating water leaks, renovating the windows and returning the original colors to the porcelain-enameled steel panels. The restoration was designed by RATIO Architects. Evansville’s Architectural Renovators is the general contractor. Both have lent financial support for the ice cream social.
The neon returns — making the dog run — at 8:30 p.m. Rescued greyhounds are coming to see themselves in lights, and Mayor Lloyd Winnecke will join in slipping the light switch.
With help from a local brain trust that include its Evansville board members Christine Keck, Kristen Tucker, and Gene Warren, Indiana Landmarks is hunting for a restaurant or brew pub tenant who will finish the inside and give downtown a revitalizing boost.
The unfinished interior will be open to view during the ice-cream social.
