News Release
Indianapolis, Ind. — Walker Information is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Since 1939, Walker has been a mainstay in the Indianapolis community and has transformed from a recognized market research firm to a leading customer strategy consulting firm, serving market-leading clients around the world.
“We are so proud to be celebrating 75 years in business – all of them in Indianapolis,” Chairman and CEO Steve Walker said. “It is a milestone that very few companies reach. We are grateful for all of the great clients we have worked for, the thousands of associates who are a part of our history, and the support the Greater Indianapolis community has meant to our success. These were the building blocks of the business my grandmother founded and they continue to serve us well today.”
Established in 1939 by Dorothy “Tommie” Walker, the firm began by conducting door-to-door surveys for banks, grocery stores, and other retail businesses. Under the leadership of her son Frank Walker, the company established prominence as a leading research firm serving the consumer packaged goods industry.
Under Steve Walker's leadership, Walker Information was one of the pioneers in the movement of customer satisfaction measurement, among the first in developing valid models for measuring customer loyalty, and at the forefront in the development of web-based survey and reporting tools.
Today, Walker is a leader in customer experience specializing in customer retention and growth, using predictive analytics and other innovative approaches to grow their customers' businesses. Walker works with some of the world's most influential businesses including clients such as Intel, Cisco Systems, EMC, Castrol, Sysco Foods, Pepsi, and many others.
In coordination with Walker's 75th Anniversary, Frank Walker commissioned a biography of his mother and Walker's founder, Dorothy “Tommie” Walker. The book,
“Tommie: From Tomboy to Executive” chronicles Tommie's life from her childhood on a farm in central Indiana, to how she founded the company and developed it into a successful business, handing it off to her son, Frank.
“This book is about a woman who lived the passion she had for family and community, and an industry that benefits the users of any product or service,” Frank Walker said. “Her vision for the company and the fruits of her efforts and passion are evident today. The company she founded is a leader in its field and serves the wider community both as a corporation and through the activities of its associates. She would be very proud.”
To recognize theimpact the Greater Indianapolis community has had on Walker's success, Walker is collaborating with Leadership Indianapolis on a project called, “The State of Community Leadership 2014.” The research will be the most comprehensive, community-wide assessment of community leadership ever undertaken. Walker is contributing this research to Leadership Indianapolis and the community of Indianapolis as its legacy gift.
In recognition of the company's 75th Anniversary, Walker will receive a Mayor's Proclamation making November 19 “Walker Day” in Indianapolis.
