“We are very grateful for Dr. Hilton's generous contributions to Ivy Tech,” said Chancellor Jonathan Weinzapfel. “We are honored to have our School of Health Sciences bear the name of a man who committed his entire career to our community, and who helped initiate many positive changes in local health care.”

Dr. Hilton, a retired OB/GYN, is one of the founding doctors of the Women's Hospital, which is affiliated with Deaconess Health System. Throughout his medical career, he was impressed with the quality of the nurses, surgical technicians, and other medical and office staff who were graduates of Ivy Tech Community College. This interaction inspired him to make an investment of support to the College.

According to Dr. Hilton, “The cost of education is a challenge for many students. Ivy Tech represents a very affordable option for many students to obtain the credentials they need to begin a successful career in health care, and I am proud to be a part of making that happen. I want to encourage others, from similar humble beginnings, to define their goals in life and then achieve them through perseverance, hard work, dedication, and education.”

Ivy Tech Community College is the state's largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving nearly 200,000 students annually. Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana. It serves as the state’s engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.
