Outgoing ExactTarget Inc. Chief Executive Officer Scott Dorsey says his successor, Scott McCorkle, is “the best leader on the planet” to take the helm of company. McCorkle currently serves as president of technology and strategy for the email marketing provider. Dorsey helped found the Indianapolis-based company in 2000 and announced this morning he plans to stay on through August. Dorsey says he plans to remain an ExactTarget Foundation director. ExactTarget was purchased last year by California-based Salesforce.com Inc. (NYSE: CRM) for $2.5 billion.

McCorkle co-founded Mezzia Inc., a company that develops capital spending software. He previously worked for IBM, BorgWarner Automotive's Technology Research Center and Eli Lilly and Co.'s Lilly Research Laboratories.

He has been with ExactTarget since 2005.

“I have decided to transition out of ExactTarget and Salesforce later this summer. As you might imagine, this was an incredibly difficult decision. I have loved every minute of the last 14 years – and feel terrific about the future of the business.

This is a great time to begin a new chapter – both for our company and for me personally. We have made enormous strides integrating our business with Salesforce over the last year – and Scott McCorkle, ExactTarget's President of Technology and Strategy, is absolutely the best leader on the planet to become our next CEO. Scott has led the technology team at ExactTarget for nearly 9 years and was instrumental in every stage of ExactTarget's growth – from acquisitions to the IPO to the acquisition of ExactTarget last year.

ExactTarget will always be a huge part of my life. I look forward to advising salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff, Scott McCorkle and ExactTarget's leadership through the end of August, as well as remaining a director on the ExactTarget Foundation.”
